Artist Statement

The Endless Scrolling is a Net Art piece created under the theme of Network Culture. It serves as both a self-reflection and a cautionary message about humanity’s entrapment in a cycle of infinite internet consumption. The work explores how endless scrolling through digital content distorts our perception of satisfaction and time, leaving users perpetually unfulfilled.
The animation begins with a looping illustration of a phone scrolling through three common internet topics—politics (Donald Trump), internet cuteness (a cat), and showbiz entertainment (K-pop group TWICE)—representing the diverse yet ultimately hollow content that traps users in perpetual scrolling. The text “What’s Next?” then appears, glitching progressively stronger until the screen becomes completely corrupted and turns black. The final frame concludes with the haunting text “Never Enough”, underscoring the futility of insatiable consumption.
This piece incorporates text-based art, where a public-domain phone illustration is transformed into ASCII art. The visuals transition from stark black and white to blue tones with heavy vibrant glitch effects, signifying the overwhelming and chaotic nature of the digital world. The glitch aesthetic mirrors the distortion of identity and reality caused by overexposure to digital platforms.
Through its repetitive nature, Endless Scrolling critiques the psychological impact of infinite scrolling and invites viewers to reflect on their digital habits. It questions how much control we retain in a world where technology shapes behavior and erodes agency.
